I'm a girl on a mission, currently finishing my PhD in Performance Studies and Feminism, while starting an international organization to help young people in need.
Twiga is a non-profit organization in development, based in California, UK and Kenya. We use the ideals of creativity, transformation, and sustainability to support children in need both at home and abroad.
We focus on disadvantaged rural youth and AIDS orphans in Africa. There are almost 17 million children worldwide, mostly in Africa, who have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Our goal is simple: We build safe places for these children -- a central place to get food, clothing and medicine, but most importantly, to simply be a child and play, learn life skills, and become future leaders.
Our first project is a partnership with Twiga Children's Center in Kisii, Kenya--servicing 40 children. In 2010 and 2011, we financed: the fees to file paperwork for our nonprofit partners in Kenya, creating an international organization that can function throughout Africa, as well as-- a young woman's fees to finish school, school supplies and school uniforms for all the children, seeds and tools for gardening, and the purchase of a sewing machine.
Our future goals are:
-Digging a water well,
-Building a dormitory to house the most vulnerable children.
In 2012, we will organize and host a rural development conference for young adults in California.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING AND BECOMING A PART OF OUR MOVEMENT .
In Love, Creativity and Sustainability,
Founder and Director of Twiga USA
